Relational Grounds is a site-specific exhibition that focuses on the subtle, often invisible structures that arise between thoughts, bodies and places. The space not only forms the context, but also the starting point: with its history, its traces and its open, changing architecture, it becomes an active partner in the artistic process. The participating artists enter into a creative dialogue with the architecture and with each other. This process gives rise to a network of relationships that interweaves space, memory and the present.

Karmen Ponikvar

Karmen Ponikvar is a sound artist and a performer born in Slovenia, currently residing in The Hague, where she is studying sound at the Institute of Sonology. Tuning her ears through various means of recording, listening methodologies, and performative practices, she aims to make sound the centerpiece of our shared lived experience. Through microtonal sonic structures, sculptures of spatial imaginaries and speculative philosophies of perception, she explores the intricate relationships between sound, space and place. Weaving field recording, amplified objects and experimental electronics she crafts performances that encourage attentive listening, promote reflections and foster care.

Her performance Species of Spaces gently stimulates the senses through sound, focusing on the fragility of sonic gestures and the richness of tiny, ephemeral sonic details. Guided by natural rhythms, fluent bodies and interspecies vibrational communication, she seeks to uncover fictional ways of understanding the epoch that we live in. Intricate webs curling into path waves, sublimated to a permanent aural becoming.
