O_mejeni / be_grenzt

The project O_mejeni/Be_grenzt is a co-production by Diana Horvat and Samo Zeichen. Both embark on an acoustic quest to explore their Slovenian identities. In the process, the border between Austria and Slovenia becomes a meeting point for two individual perspectives. What does it mean to grow up in Austria as a Slovenian speaker, and how does a Slovenian identity manifest itself in someone from Prekmurje? These are audible explorations of their own history, spoken in the regional dialect of Prekmurje and underpinned by abstracted field recordings and archival footage. In this way, Diana and Samo find a Slovenian formal language through dialogue that moves, in a moving sound sculpture, between convergence and demarcation. Like borders that run through landscapes, a sound resonates that is unclassifiable yet sounds familiar at the same time. A work dedicated to deep listening in dialect.
